Everybody's Walkin' The Dawg....
@ 2008-09-02 – 13:13:50
Strolling towards the beach with the eager hell-hound yesterday evening I first heard, then spied a dishevelled young magpie legging it up the road towards us, yelling for help...
It was closely followed by an adreneline-pumped sabre-toothed tabby who had obviously given the bird a good slap and was closing in for the kill...
Intervention was called for...
The hound intervened a lot faster than I did, heroically dashing between the bird and cat ...
Whereupon the confused avian did a u-turn back into the embrace of the hungry feline and the dog ( hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone ) rollerballed them both over a wall into a nearby garden...
Up to this point I had been intrepidly pavement-skiing on my knees (still attached to the lead)...but on meeting the wall most of me came to an abrupt star-fished stop, apart from my arm which (despite being largely out of the socket it calls home ) maintained magnificent control hanging on to 7 stone of hyper-hound dangling on the other side going 'Akkk Akkk Aakk' with his blue tounge hanging out ...
The homeowner poked his head around the door in the pouring rain just long enough to berate me soundly for allowing my dog to chase 'Tiddles', who scarpered into his house giving us the 2-fingered feline-salute.
The magpie climbed a tree...
I tentatively unscrambled my shredded jeans from my bloody shredded knees and limped off down the road with as much dignity as I could muster and continued on my merry way into the deluge...
Does no sodding good deed go unpunished ?
How does that song about magpies go again ?
